 FAQs

  • Our individual therapy session fees are currently $250 per 50-minute appointment.

Our fees for DVA, NDIS, and other funding schemes depend on their recommended prices.

If you are eligible for Medicare or have private health insurance, your out-of-pocket fee will be lower as long as you provide your psychologist with all the relevant information.

  • The aim of the first session is to get to know you and understand your therapy goals.

During the first session, your therapist will discuss your rights and limitations of therapy.

Depending on your presenting problems, they might ask about the history of your challenges, your current circumstances, your relationships, your lifestyle, and, yes, even your childhood. It is important to remember that these are your sessions and it is important that you feel comfortable and heard. If there is anything you do not wish to discuss, just let your therapist know “Not today”.

  • If you are eligible for a Medicare Mental Health Treatment Plan, you can receive up to 10 rebated sessions per year. The current rebate for a 50-minute session is $98.95.

To get a Mental Health Treatment Plan, book a long/Mental Health consultation with your GP and ask them for a Mental Health Treatment Plan. They might ask you a few questions on what you are experiencing.

For the first referral you will receive 6 Medicare-rebated sessions, reducing your out-of-pocket cost.

Following a MHTP review, you may be eligible to receive 4 additional sessions, but no more than 10 per calendar year. You are unable to use both Medicare and your private health insurance at the same time, you can only use on or the other.

  • Yes, you can use your private health insurance at Rethink Psychology.

Private health insurers may rebate part of the cost of psychological consultations however your rebate amount will depend on your insurer and coverage. Just let your therapist know that your plan on using your Private Health insurance.

Contact your health insurance provider for further information.

  • Yes, we offer telehealth appointments!

When you book your appointment, just let your therapist know that you will require a telehealth appointment and we will email or text you a one-off link for a videocall or can contact you on your number at the time of your appointment. See you online.

  • To book an appointment with your psychologist, give us a call on 0405 621 569. You may also wish to reach out via email on admin@rethinkpsychology.com.au.

You can also book your appointment directly by clicking on the Book Now button at the top of this page. You will be required to register as a new client by providing your first and last name, email address, contact number, and a unique password. You will then be able to view your psychologist’s availability and book your appointment.

  • Your session will generally last for 50 minutes. However, allow a full hour for your initial session as you will be required to complete some initial admin.

  • The level of support you need will depend on multiple factors like how significant your mental health issues are, your therapy goals, if there is any risk to monitor, your schedule/availability, and your finances. Your psychologist will provide recommendations and a plan on how many sessions they think you will need, but ultimately, this will be a joint decision.

Your psychologist will generally recommend 4 weekly sessions, followed by fortnightly sessions.
